Prof. Mbabazi is a professor of development studies with a Doctoral degree (PhD) in Development Studies from Mbarara University of Science and Technology. She is an alumnus of Makerere University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Political Science. She also holds a Master of Arts degree in development studies from the University of Leeds and a Master of Science degree in development planning and management from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana.
Prior to joining NPA, Prof. Mbabazi served as the Head of Research for the African Peace and Security Programme at the Institute for Peace and Security Studies, Addis Ababa University. She was the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Mbarara University of Science and Technology from 2010 to 2015 before which she served as Dean of the faculty of Development studies from 1998 to 2010 where she is credited for setting up the faculty and developing its curriculum.
