internship / Volunteer

Practical based training for student trainees in order to fulfill a requirement of their educational programs as required by the schools or institutions curricular. Normally students accomplishing their first degrees are admitted.

  • Enable students acquire the necessary skills and work ethics
  • Prepare and orient student interns towards developing the skills, knowledge and attitudes needed to become effective employees as one secures employment elsewhere
  • Enable student interns gain responsibility and develop abilities on critical thinking and problem solving and identify their strength and weaknesses
  • Expose student interns to formal and informal to formal and informal relations in NPA which underlie the development of favorable human relations and teamwork
  • Enable student interns learn the nature and operations of public organizations and professional conduct
  • Between September and March each year applications with the University’s recommendation attached are addressed to the Executive Director and delivered to NPA Front Desk /Reception
  • NPA admits interns between May and August each year for applications that flow in through the reception by March each year. The application must have a copy of an introductory from the training institution or university.
  • Not everyone who applies gets an opportunity. Due to space and other resource constraints the Authority normally takes a maximum of 10 candidates for the period and those taken on must be destined to qualify in areas where NPA can offer real practical experience.
  • Student interns’ training period does not exceed three months at a time and may be less in accordance with application requirement from the interns’ institution / university.
  • Interns are not paid by the Institution and have to meet own costs except lunch is served at NPA.

The volunteers’ role is to beef up the internal capacity of NPA arising from a shortage in the substantively appointed staff and also stand in transition periods to facilitate work movement.

  • Expose volunteers to formal and informal to formal and informal relations in NPA which underlie the development of favorable human relations and teamwork
  • Enable volunteers learn the nature and operations of public organizations and professional conduct
  • Relieve staffing pressure at NPA temporarily.
  • Throughout the year, the National Planning Authority receives unsolicited or walk in applications and CVs addressed to the Executive Director and received by the Front Desk / Reception to form a pool of applicants.
  •  Arising out of a departmental need shortlists are made and interviews are conducted and the best candidate(s) is/ are selected respectively.
  •  However at any one time the opportunities are very competitive and limited and the few arise out of need.
  • Volunteers undertake short renewal assignments of 6 months at a time.
  •  Hold a minimum of a relevant Honors Degree though a relevant Masters’ degree is of added advantage.
  • For future openings volunteering positions the candidates are subjected to a competitive internal recruitment process for substantive contract employment.
  • Volunteers receive a modest stipend allowance as facilitation and are provided with lunch
